Let’s talk about that task.
You know the one... It sits quietly on your to-do list, never urgent enough to demand attention, but never unimportant enough to disappear. It patiently waits… and waits… and somehow becomes more annoying the longer you ignore it.
For me this week, that task was updating the website. I know it matters. A current, accurate website is often the first impression people have of our business. It tells our story, reflects our professionalism, and helps people decide whether to trust us. No pressure, right?
And yet—updating it can feel like painting the Harbour Bridge. You finish one section, step back proudly… and immediately notice three more things that need fixing. It’s never really done.
But here’s the truth I keep relearning: the important-but-tedious tasks are often the ones that quietly move our business forward. They don’t come with applause or instant results, but they build credibility, consistency, and confidence over time.
So if you’ve been side-eyeing a task like this all week, consider this your gentle nudge (with a smile).
Three quick tips to tackle the task you’ve been avoiding:
1. Lower the bar (just for today)
You don’t need to finish it—you just need to start. Commit to 20 minutes. Update one page. Fix one section. Progress beats perfection every time.
2. Make it less painful
Pair the task with something you enjoy—your favourite playlist, a good coffee, or even a change of scenery. If it’s going to be tedious, it may as well be pleasantly tedious.
3. Future-you will thank you
Whenever motivation dips, imagine how good it will feel to have it done—or at least under control. A small effort now can save a lot of stress later.
By the end of my website update session, was everything perfect? Of course not. But it was better. And sometimes, better is exactly what your business needs.
Tryi ticking off one of those quietly important jobs this week. Not glamorous, not exciting, but absolutely worth it!
